Speaking on behalf of our students, teachers, and staff, I would like to welcome you to the Sacramento River Discovery School website. We hope the information provided on our site creates a clear picture of our school and answers whatever questions you may have. The Sacramento River Discovery Charter School was founded by committed educators with a vision of educating students to fully appreciate and understand the importance of maintaining and enhancing the natural resources of our area. In order to accomplish this, every student is provided an opportunity to experience hands-on learning in a variety of environmental settings. We are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and chartered by the Tehama County Department of Education. These hands-on learning opportunities include enrollment in a field science course each term, participating in a week-long field trip to locales within the state (i.e., Yosemite, Monterey Bay, Lassen Park, etc.), and participating in an integrated curriculum that uses the environment and natural resource management as a theme for learning in our academic core classes. Over the years, the school has evolved in order to ensure that all its students are receiving an educational opportunity that maximizes their chance to succeed in whatever career path they choose. Just as importantly, we seek to instill the knowledge, skills, and abilities that will allow every student to be successful in their family life and their community life. We do this in an educational environment that benefits from small class sizes, utilizes significant parental involvement, and maintains the flexibility that allows us to “turn on a dime” when the need arises. If, you have questions about any aspect of our school, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely, Larry Newman, Principal Sacramento River Discovery Charter School
